KCCI 8 CBS: Pros team up for Morris camp in Ames

AMES, Iowa – Monte Morris feels he’s in better shape, Peter Jok needs his passport to play in France, and Cameron Lard can still dunk a basketball with style.

Those were three takeways I had Saturday after visiting with the professional basketball players. Morris hosted a youth basketball camp as he gears up for his third season in the NBA with the Denver Nuggets.

Morris played significant minutes for Denver last season as the Nuggets reached the Western Conference Semifinals, but was physically worn out during the playoffs. Morris said he’s been in the gym most of the summer and takes pride in staying in shape. He also spent time at Chris Paul’s camp in North Carolina.

Jok signed with Cholet France, a member of the premier basketball league in France, but cannot travel overseas yet due to a passport issue. Once he clears that problem up, he hopes to make the most of his opportunity.

Lard, who left Iowa State early for the NBA, said he impressed teams at the NBA G League Combine last weekend in Chicago, and is closing in on a roster spot.

Stoughton Courier: Former Badger greats visit camp at SEA

About 90 children ages 6 to 17 had the chance to learn tips from former Wisconsin Badger Frank Kaminsky, who now plays for the NBA’s Phoenix Suns.

Kaminsky dribbled between his legs, blocked shots and took time to shoot some jumpers at the final day of a three-day camp at the Sports Enhancement Academy in Stoughton. He hosted a question and answer session.

Players questioned him about the favorite prank he has pulled, the back-to-back Final Four runs with Wisconsin in 2014 and ‘15, his favorite teammate in the NBA and his favorite Michael Jordan shoes, the Jordan 11s, which were featured in the “Space Jam” movie.

Kaminsky signed a two-year, $10 million contract with the Suns this offseason after spending four years with the Charlotte Hornets.

Campers also had a chance to meet two other UW basketball stars in Ethan Happ and Sam Dekker. Children met Happ on Wednesday, Aug. 14, and Dekker the next day at the camp.

WKOW ABC 27: Kaminsky gives back at youth camp

Frank Kaminsky was back in Southern Wisconsin this week, helping to run the ProStart Basketball camp with other former Badgers Sam Dekker and Ethan Happ. The camp is a 3-day event that teaches hoops skills to kids ages 6-18 at the Sports Enhancement Academy in Stoughton.

Kaminsky blocked some shots, signed autographs, and answered questions from the kids at the camp. He tells WKOW it’s important for him to come back each year.

“You can see the excitement and how much everyone enjoys having me, Sam and Ethan come back and do this camp,” said Kaminsky during the camp on Friday. “So it’s fun, too. It’s a lot of fun to come back and see the excitement and know that your name still holds weight in the place you left an impact on.”

This offseason, “Frank the Tank” signed a two-year free agent deal with the Phoenix Suns.  After being underutilized in Charlotte last season, he says he’s excited for the fresh opportunity.

“It’s gonna be great,” said Kaminsky. “I’m just excited to finally go there. You know, I tell everyone I didn’t get my fill of basketball last year. So I’m prepared for whatever comes next and I’m really ready to go there and prove what I can do. I just want the season to finally start. I just cant wait for it to start.”

While Kaminsky will open the 2019-2020 season in Arizona, Dekker and Happ are both slated to play basketball overseas.
