Chicago Bulls’ Bobby Portis to take part in basketball camp at Johnsburg

Local youth basketball players will have an opportunity to meet and learn from Bulls forward Bobby Portis at a two-day camp next month at Johnsburg High School.

The Pro Start 2S Basketball Camp, put on by Pro Start Sports, will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 17 and 18 at the high school. Boys and girls players ages 6 to 17 may attend.

Portis, who has played three NBA seasons, averaged 13.2 points and 6.8 rebounds a game for the Bulls. He played college basketball at Arkansas and was taken by the Bulls with the 22nd pick of the 2015 NBA Draft.

Johnsburg boys basketball coach Mike Toussaint said his brother, Eric, an assistant coach, knew someone at Pro Start Sports, which organizes camps like this with various NBA players. The camp costs $125. Portis will be there for instruction, and Johnsburg’s high school players will work as counselors.
